A view of the sunset at the Sea of Galilee with me sitting at its shores. What a wonder: a self portrait at the shores of the Sea of Galilee. The photo was taken in 2007, when the Lord gave me the gift of visiting the Holy Land. This wonderful experience was after completing chemotherapy and radiotherapy for breast cancer from 2004-2005, only two years had passed, yet I was in such peach and experiencing much grace. This image was shot on the evening of the first day my plane landed at Tel Aviv (Israel's capital), then traveled to Haifa. The Sea of Galilee is the largest fresh water lake in Israel. The lake is fed partly by underground springs although its main source is the Jordan River which flows through it from north to south. It was along its shores that Jesus began calling His disciples who where fishermen (see the Gospel of Matthew). Josephus, a historian who wrote about of the Jewish people, wrote that the Sea of Galilee was "wonderful in its characteristics and in its beauty. Thanks to the rich soil there is not a plant that does not flourish there, and the inhabitants grow everything: the air is so temperate that it suits the most diverse species."

Sandra, This is a wonderful portrait of yourself! I love these kind of photos! You look happy, and content, and seem to be enjoying yourself. Perhaps reflective... Nice rocks and I enjoy the "almost" sepia tone... very peaceful! Wonderful... FV

Sandra, Fantastic scenic photo and seascape with a self portrait of yourself added in for good measure. Great details and I love the color of the sky and the details in the water and especially the small detailed wakes rolling into the shore. Beautiful foreground and background details picked up in this remarkable photo. Really loved reading your write up in the description box about the location and what it meant to you and what you went through to get there. I am glad you are doing better now, look forward to seeing more of your great work. Excellent photo, google, FB promoted and voted on and chosen as my Pay It Forward photo for the CFC Group
