An art photograph with minimal digital manipulation (creating a purple and background) of a male model gyrating on a flat form in a horizontal rapid motion. Because of the special photographic technic used and described below, the image created is a motion blur (defined below) showing a static image of one of the many positions of one of the rotating legs, with a clear and defined view of its shoe. Juxtaposed are the other positions of the legs, which are seen as shadows involved in the horizontal gyrating motion. Viewing the image without knowing what the subject was doing when the photograph was taken, might give the impression that he is dancing; personally I see him as if he was step dancing. Motion blur, defined for the purposes of describing this image, is the apparent streaking of rapidly moving objects in a still image. The capture of motion or movement in static images that is frequently used in sports photography as an obvious manner of highlighting the movements of athletes. However, every type of photography can benefit from the emphasis of motion in a photograph. In order to obtain successful motion blur images, the main subject or in this case the male model, meaning in this case the speed of his gyrating speed. If the subject gyrates slower the image is completely that if he gyrates faster. The shutter speed is also affected is how much light there is in the scene being photographed. To create motion blur images, It is best to allow less light in, providing the option to have longer shutter speeds. Many factors are to be considered including the speed of the subject being photographed, how much blur is desired to capture and how well lit the subject is. The key is to experiment, to practice, especially with a digital camera.
